Cubs Pick Up Big Win From A's
The Cubbies finally
showed up to play some baseball Wednesday night. They won the game 7-3 behind a
good outing from starter Jay Alexander (1-1) and two excellent perfomances out
of the bullpen by middle reliever Mike Driggers and closer Doug Stasio.
Alexander struck out 6 in 5 innings while only giving up 2 hits and allowing no
earned runs. Stasio came in to start the eighth and pitched 2 innings of
scoreless baseball to pick up his first save of the year. The Cubs offense was
provided by the top of the order as John Thompson led the team going 3-4 (2B),
4 R's and 2RBI's. Jason Hazel also went 3-3 with 2SB and an RBI. The A's got a
big lift in the 7th as Issac Perkins went deep off reliever Mike Driggers.
Still it wasn't enough as the Cubs held on for their 2nd win of the season.
