Braves Edge Yanks in 10
After introducing the players to one another, debating the fielding alignment and drawing straws to determine a batting order the 2003 Yankees threw themselves aggressively into an opening day battle with a tough Braves squad. Dean Feltmann co-led a modest hitting attack with a double and a single while starting pitcher Spearchucker Bresnahan doubled in 2 runs.

As the Yankees traditionally approach the regular season as a tune up for the playoffs, fans were pleasantly surprised to see as tight a contest as they were treated to. But for a spectacular leaping grab high over the centerfield wall of a wind aided blast off the bat of 41 season veteran backstop Steve Conte, the Yanks may have pulled it out. As it was, deadlocked at 4 apiece after regulation, the Braves pushed the game winner across with 2 out in the 10th as leftfielder Corey Morris' diving attempt at a sinking liner came up just an inch short.

Longtime Yankee fans will want to arrive early for Thursday's pregame giveaway - the first 1000 through the gate, as well as all the umpires, will receive an official Dave Heidenberg mask, complete with contact lenses of Dave's own prescription.
